Interactive visual for Ubik festival

This pet project was made mostly by a coder friend and me for the Ubik music and art festival in 2016. The concept was to build a visual system which the audience can interact with.

The hardware was a square sliced into 3 horizontal rectangles, each being able to rotate separately, operated by electronic stepper motors. Faces of various people and characters also split into 3 parts were projected on the cubes, controlled by the audience members.

The faces mixed together by people, created an uncanny feeling with moods ranging from funky to bizarre. It was a few months of work starting with research and design leading to a bunch of failing and retrying because of the complexity of the hardware and software. The projection mapping was also challenging and to control everything through a website required hardcore coding.
